Outdoor activities aren’t just a great way of getting the kids out in the fresh air and away from computer screens and televisions – they can also help people of all ages to learn valuable motor skills and keep fit.

There are some wonderful outdoor recreation areas around Riemore at Tamborine. Some of our favourites are:

Darlington Parklands

This water park and play area at Yarrabilba is a favourite amongst families in Riemore at Tamborine for good reason – it’s filled with fantastic play equipment and shallow water-play areas where kids of all ages can relax, cool off, and have heaps of fun. It also features a climbing wall and flying fox for the more adventurous children. But this park isn’t designed just for kids – there are a lot of activities that the whole family can join in on. There’s an outdoor gym, a basketball court, and cricket pitch, as well as a sports oval and plenty of spots to stop and relax with a picnic or BBQ.

Springbrook National Park

National parks are a great way to get back to nature and see some of Queensland’s flora and fauna in their natural habitat. This national park has a number of walking tracks and some amazing scenery, including some lovely waterfalls and stunning after-dark glow-worm displays. You can camp within the park, which is especially handy if you’re planning a glow-worm visit.

Tamborine Mountain Botanical Gardens

If you’re looking for something a little less energetic than a hearty bush walk, the botanical gardens might just be the perfect option. These beautifully-planted gardens are immaculately cared for, and make for a relaxing and uplifting outdoor experience.

Albert River

There are some lovely kayaking opportunities on the Albert River, with several long flat-water sections suitable for kids and beginners and some white-water and more difficult sections for more experienced kayakers. There are several shops around Mt Tamborine that hire out canoes and kayaks for day trips and longer.

Mount Tamborine National Park

Horse lovers abound in the Mount Tamborine area, and there are a number of trails in the Mount Tamborine National Park. You can see a map of horse-friendly trails on the Department of National Parks, Sport and Racing’s website. A number of companies run horse riding tours.
